Studying the Teachings of Master Ryuho Okawa and Deepening Faith in El Cantare

Students deepen their understanding of the university’s founding spirit, “The Exploration of Happiness and the Creation of a New Civilization,” while following the example of Master Ryuho Okawa’s dedication in his youth. They cultivate a spirit of self-reliance, embrace the “noblesse oblige” of taking responsibility for the happiness of all humanity, and develop lofty aspirations.

Students also study the fundamentals of the teachings of Happy Science and explore the nature of happiness for individuals and society.

University-Wide Courses in Happy Science Studies

The Spirit of the Founder

This course explores the meaning of the university’s founding spirit, “The Exploration of Happiness and the Creation of a New Civilization,” which embodies the spirit of Founder Master Ryuho Okawa, as well as the philosophy of HSU. Through this study, students deepen their understanding of the mindset required for dedicated academic pursuits and the profound value of the Buddhist Truth taught by the Founder, while engraving in their hearts the spirit of “the unity of knowledge and action” for the happiness of all humanity. Students also study poetry collections, novels, and lectures by Founder Master Ryuho Okawa for students and young people. Through these studies, they build a foundation for becoming valuable members of society and people of faith, while establishing goals that include their personal growth after graduation.

Basic Happy Science Studies

This course provides an overview of the fundamental teachings of Happy Science, beginning with “The Exploration of the Right Mind” and the “Principles of Happiness” as their practical application, namely the Fourfold Path of Love, Knowledge, Self-Reflection, and Progress. Students also study an introduction to the “Laws Series” and develop a comprehensive understanding of Happy Science Studies. In addition, students learn the history of Happy Science and deepen their understanding of its movement to bring happiness to humanity. They also acquire practical methods for recognizing the importance of practicing the teachings and making such practices a part of their daily lives.

Happy Science Lecture Learning Studies

This course aims to deepen faith in El Cantare and advance the practice of studying the teachings. In addition to listening to important lectures by Master Ryuho Okawa, students participate in university-wide activities such as prayers for revival, prayer ceremonies, and koan training. Through cultivating the habit of studying these precious lectures and developing a sincere aspiration for the Truth, students deepen their understanding of the importance of exploring the mind of Master Ryuho Okawa and purifying their faith. Students reaffirm the greatness of the Lord, deepen their love for the Lord, and acquire the foundation for learning and practicing the teachings in a more practical way.

Happy Science Original Teachings Studies

This course focuses on the early lectures of Happy Science and enables students to acquire the foundational theories and principles that form the basis of Happy Science Studies. Through experiencing the profound power and spirit of the words of Master Ryuho Okawa’s teachings, students deepen their love for the Lord, awaken their own faith and passion, and aim to put love for others into practice.

Happy Science Music Studies

This course provides an in-depth study of the songs known as “El Cantare: Original Songs by Ryuho Okawa,” written and composed by Master Ryuho Okawa, from the perspective that each song embodies the Law and the Teachings. Students explore the background and meaning behind these works, as well as the values based on Buddhist Truth, with the aim of receiving the spiritual influence of music from the heavenly realm.

Happy Science Studies, Faith, and Academia

This course explores Master Ryuho Okawa’s vision for education, academia, and HSU, and helps students recognize the necessity of a “new academic discipline.” Students study the differences between Happy Science Studies, which incorporates value judgments based on “God’s Justice,” and conventional materialistic academia based on agnosticism and the suspension of value judgments (epoché).

Kuro-obi Teachings Studies

This course focuses primarily on the Japanese sections of the “Kuro-Obi English Series,” an English education material created by Master Ryuho Okawa. Through studying current affairs, international situations, and ideas underlying the teachings of Happy Science, students deepen their understanding of the teachings of Master Ryuho Okawa and cultivate broader knowledge and cultural awareness.

Introduction to the Laws of the Universe

This course provides a systematic study of the laws concerning the universe taught by Master Ryuho Okawa. Various topics, including explorations of extraterrestrial life, space civilizations, and the relationship between extraterrestrial beings and Earth’s civilizations, have been revealed through these teachings. By organizing and studying these topics, students deepen their understanding of the cosmic mission of humanity and the existence of El Cantare, the God of the Universe, while gaining the wisdom necessary to share the teachings of the “Laws of the Universe.”

Human Relationship Program: Introduction and Training

The Introduction aims to help students develop a spirit of respect and the practice of thoroughness in everyday matters. Through learning and practicing proper etiquette, including opportunities such as meetings with their academic advisors, students acquire the manners and interpersonal skills needed as members of society.

The Training aims to help students transform themselves and develop their interpersonal abilities through meetings with their academic advisors and other activities. By studying the ideal student image portrayed in works such as the “Kagamigawa Ryuji Series,” which reflects aspects of Founder Master Ryuho Okawa’s own student years, students strive for self-improvement by recognizing and overcoming their own areas for growth.
